Seer & The Introduction of 'Delay'
Why do today what you can do in 3 turns after bending a little time?
Well, well, well.
I bet you didn’t expect this absolute madness coming from Seer. I can hear MattyPesq off in the distance even now ;)
Seer is a class we spent way too much time on designing. We really looked for ways to set it apart from the generally expected healbot role that one might assume from a basic class — and I love how it turned out.
The Seer also brought the introduction of “Delay” into the game as a keyword mechanic.
Quick definition of Delay for you:
An action that is taken on the current turn, but resolves on a future turn.
Example, a skill with Delay 3 would resolve in 3 Durations.
Pretty nifty, eh? The spicy element of Seer is that it is actually hard to play and hard to play against. The Seer’s player must be on top of everything and will require a pretty solid mastery of the ins-and-outs of battle. It will feel very much like keeping a dozen dinner plates spinning, while juggling fire, while also working on your taxes.
How this complexity showcases itself in battle is entirely up to you, but the intent of the design was to evolve much like how any other future-seeing psychic-ish Hero story arc starts: slow. A sprinkle of something this turn, with a bigger whopper in 3 turns; a wee little buff this turn, with a hammer in 4 turns; you will get eased into needing to balance all of these timed delays and predicting where and when things land, but it will require brain power.
That being said, that slowness doesn’t last forever.
Upon awakening (Tier 5), things open up huge and you start getting to really glimpse the future. And then things become totally bananas by Tier 7 where you’re bending time, taking turns, creating mana zones, and blowing up baddies with space junk. Heck, even “Phantasmal Secrets” might just break the game.
It gets wild, guys.
I’m big time looking forward to what you guys come up with, hit me with questions here or on Twitter. And be sure to follow DFK and Wisdom Labs on the Twitters, too.
